Thing 10 – Creative Commons

The laws of copyright are in tune with today’s society.  We must protect our work, this is why it’s important for our work to have this copyright the minute the work is complete.

Creative commons gives us the opportunity to share that work, or have someone build upon that work.

I am excited to learn about this and I will be using this in my 5th grade technology class.  I know my kids will be able to build on each other’s work by sharing and searching in CC.

Thing 8

1.  Thousand and One Flat World Tales Project wiki – I really enjoyed this wiki.  I loved seeing students who have never met and from 2 different countries interact.  This wiki was very organized and well thought out, a true learning environment.

2. Grazing for Digital Narratives - This was also an excellent idea for a wiki.  A place for educators to share technology ideas for the classroom.

3.  Kindergarten Counting Book – Who ever said anyone was too young for a wiki?  This idea was really amazing and well thought out.

Having a one to one laptop program at my school will make for a perfect opportunity for a wiki.  I plan to engage the 5th grade teachers in creating a wiki for their classroom.  They can fill their page with homework, projects, book clubs and just daily classroom interaction.  Wikis will definitely be a part of my technology projects next year.

Thing 4

  • What do you notice about the genre of blog writing in general?
I’ve been a blogger since almost day one.  I honestly believe that blogs are going to be how we are going to be able to get our children to write more therefore think more!  I love to blog and to me, it’s like brushing my teeth, I HAVE to do it every day.
  • (How) is blog reading different from other types of reading? How is it similar?
Reading blogs are like reading someone’s mind.  I believe when people blog they are writing with feeling and from the heart.
  • How does commenting contribute to the writing and meaning-making?
Comments are crucial to a successful blog.  When you write your blog it’s so great to see how others feel about your writing.  It also allows you to see new ideas about what you’ve written or other points of view.
  • Is there a “blogging literacy?” How does blogging affect the way we read and write?
I honestly believe blogging will help literacy.  Allowing children to write their feelings, in their own words and expressions is the KEY to keeping them interested in writing.
  • (How) can blogging facilitate learning?
Using a blog as a learning tool for the classroom gives children ways they can express their feelings about assignments, a book, writing..etc!  Social networking is the key to getting our children excited about reading and writing.

Thing 2 – Web 2.0

Students spend a good portion of the day on the internet.  If we integrate technology into their everyday learning, I believe, they will learn and retain more.  Students love technology and teachers who use technology on a daily basis probably will have much more success with their students.   Technology is like habit 7 1/2 we are playing but aren’t we learning?

My Journey Through k-12 Learning 2.0

Thing 1

Which habit(s) may be most challenging for me to employ as part of your K12 Learning 2.0 experience? 7 1/2 is going to be my biggest challenge. I always have to many things on my plate with teaching, technology, family..etc. I need to find time to play and learn and let a few things go here and there.

Which habit(s) will be easiest, or are most resonent for me as a lifelong learner? 6 is easiest for me. Being a technology teacher, I really know what’s out there are at least some of it. I don’t think anyone knows everything that’s out there. I love the internet and finding new things to teach my students. I think this habit will always come natural to me.

Which habit do you think will be most important for you as you work through this course, and why? I believe habit 4 will be important for me. I always have confidence in myself but sometimes I have a tendency to listen to others who are negative. It’s my goal to continue to be confidant in myself as a learner.
